WHO:
Floating homes owners, renters, upland neighbors, local businesses and Seattle officials. A "Dock Captain" is a person who has volunteered to be the representative for their moorage(s).
WHY:
To reduce crime in our neighborhood.
WHEN:
Whenever there is an incident or information that would help deter or stop crime in our neighborhood.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Participate by reading the emails, sending information you feel your neighbors would benefit from to your Dock Captain and being proactive.
WHAT THE DOCK CAPTAINS DO:
Relay via email any incident or information that has involved residents on your dock to dockwatch@seattlefloatinghomes.org. Forward emails from dockwatch@seattlefloatinghomes.org to those houseboat owners and renters affiliated with your dock.
WHAT I DO:
I edit and send out dock watch email reports every month.
I act as the gate keeper to protect individuals identities. In addition I or another dedicated individual attend the monthly meetings to represent floating homes owners and renters in the North, West and East Precincts.
FUTURE:
To have a houseboat dweller from every dock who is willing to be the liaison for such emails. If you are reading this and would like to be a Dock Captain please email me at dockwatch@floatinghomes.org If you are already a Dock Captain and would like to pass this task on please find a replacement and let me know.
WHAT THIS IS NOT:
This is not a replacement for calling 911 for Fire, Police or the Seattle Harbor Patrol. It shall not cost money or involve meetings.
DISCLAIMER:
It is hoped that this experiment shall reduce crime in our neighborhood. I am open to constructive criticism if you have an idea on how to improve the effectiveness of our Dock Watch.
