Car Prowler on Fairview Ave E

When:  sometime during the night of Friday, January 30, 2009.
Where:  parked in front of 2031 Fairview Ave E.
What: "Our car and our neighbors car was broken into.  This is the sixth time we have suffered a car related crime.  Our passenger side window was broken and there were marks on the car indicating the prowler had special tools to gain entry.  I believe the prowler was looking for the removable face plate that goes to our stereo. Apparently many people hide the face plate in their car.  Thankfully I take mine into my home with me when I am not in the car.  Nothing is missing from our car.  According to the SPD officer I spoke to seven to eight cars were prowled in the immediate area the same night ours was hit." Reported To:  SPD.

Prostitution at the NOAA Parking Lot

When:  Ongoing.
Where:  The NOAA parking lot near the corner of Fairview Ave E and E Newton St.
What:  "Prostitution has started up again at the NOAA parking lot.  There are condoms and wet wipes all over in a dark area of the lot.  Not sure what to do for the most effectiveness.  They are not using the parking lot across the street (from 2025 FVE) for the action any longer it seems but may be still meeting there."
Editorial Comment:   Current advice from the SPD is to call 911 every time you notice any activity in the area.  Its highly probable that ongoing unchecked prostitution will bring with it other undesirable activity such as drug dealing.  Thanks to a tip from a neighbor I reported an abandoned vehicle in this immediate area.  Hopefully the SPD will tow it soon.

Removal of Raccoons - More Perspectives

A.  "I am concerned about people getting up in arms about our wildlife and going for traps.  The animals are destroyed by the people who come to get them.  They are not relocated as some people think - which apparently allows them to keep their conscience clear.  Hopefully people will try the other ideas unless the animal is obviously ill."

B. "Actually, I like all the little creatures that play around our houseboats, including the raccoons.  What I don't like is the feeding of same.  That tends to artificially increase their numbers when the environment can't support that many and to make them aggressive."
