Dockwatch 04/01/2009
Boat Fire on Westlake
When: Saturday, Feb. 28th at nearly 1 p.m.
Where: The Morrison Star Marina in the 2700 block of Westlake Avenue.
What: "The boat owner had just purchased the boat in Leschi, and along with a friend had taken the boat to the Marina to get the boat some gas. The boat owner ran the blower, but when the boat was started, there was an explosion and the boat caught on fire. The boat owner's friend sustained leg and facial injuries (non-life threatening). The burning boat was released from the fuel dock by the owner, and it began drifting south in the water. It scraped by another boat causing fire damage to that boat".
Reported To: "Shortly thereafter SPD Harbor units arrived and were able to move the boat into open water away from the marina and extinguish the fire. SFD attended to the injured victims. The boat was subsequently towed to the SPD Harbor station. Fire Marshall 15 responded and took charge of the investigation."
Car Break Ins at Lees Landing
When: Friday February 27 and Friday March 6th.
Where: Lees Landing which is the marina dock just west of 2812 and 2814 Westlake.
What: "(My houseboat neighbor) suggested I let you know about recent car break ins that my wife and experienced. My wife and I live aboard our sailboat and have been at Lee's for about two years. We had two cars broken into, our Toyota Camry and Nissan Pathfinder. And then our Nissan Pathfinder was broken into again yesterday, exactly a week later. You can imagine our frustration and concern.
Both time the cars were rummaged through, including the trunk on the Camry. The first time nothing was stolen (we don't leave valuables in the cars); but the second time my gym bag was stolen with about $200 worth of clothes and shoes. Kathy mentions below contacting the city to ask for a light by the steps. We obviously would like to lights along the entire street and parking area. We'd be happy to participate in a campaign if you all decide to pursue the lighting."
Reported To: SPD. "We reported both incidents to the police, but other than the information going into a data base, we are not expecting any results."
The FHA 47th Annual Membership Meeting
When: Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 6:30 - 7:30 pm social hour with complimentary refreshments, 7:30 - 9:30 pm meeting.
Where: Puget Sound Yacht Club, 2321 North Northlake, Seattle, WA 98103.
What: Lorraine McConaghy, an historian from MOHAI will speak about the history of Lake Union. The Shoreline's Master Program Revision currently underway will also figure prominently on the agenda. In addition there will be standing committee reports, executive board elections, “Houseboatique” items for sale. Come mingle w ith other houseboaters!! Fun!! Information!! Refreshments!!
