Questionable Solicitations

When:  Thursday, September 24, 2009 around 7:00 pm.

Where:  2828 1/2 Boyer Ave. E.

What:  "Recently we had two well dressed young African American men on our dock, going to each home claiming they had some type of job placement business. When asked for information about it they were not able to produce anything. I did not see any visible badges noting that they had any sort of business license. When told that we were a non solicitor dock and asked to leave they left our house and proceeded to go to the other homes on our dock. I saw them later down the Boyer on the Bay dock immediately following our dock (The Brackett Dock Association). My neighbors said they were also on their docks claiming to be doing magazine sales but didn't have clip boards or anything. I'm not sure how other docks handle these types of solicitors but it did seem that asking them for information related to why they were there might be a good practice without being too aggressive.

Reported To:  SPD not called because it was determined that no laws were being broken.

West Precinct Advisory Council FHA Representative Needed

When:  The meetings are the second Tuesday of every month, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Where:  The West Precinct at 810 Virginia Street.

What:  "Terrie Johnston is hoping that someone from the FHA will want to represent their "neighborhood" at a monthly meeting.  The West Precinct Advisory Council (WPAC) is made up of representatives from the many neighborhoods served by the West Precinct; such as Queen Anne, Magnolia, Chinatown, Belltown, Pioneer Square, SODO, the Waterfront, First Hill.  Ideally there is a residential and/or commercial rep. that attends.  This is a chance to meet with the precinct commanders, operations lieutenants, Community Police Team, Precinct prosecutor, and other relevant police personnel and learn what is going on with SPD but more importantly to let Captain Brown know what your neighborhood issues are.  The networking that goes on between the reps. is very helpful in combating civility issues; graffiti; noise complaints; liquor licensees, etc.  Do you want to represent the FHA for two hours a month?" Terrie Johnston will follow up with anyone interested in volunteering.  Terrie.Johnston@seattle.gov
