What's on the menu?

Here's our updated list of volunteer opportunities — there's something for everyone, and every bit of help makes a real difference to our floating home community. Think of it as a menu, not a commitment: some roles take just an hour, others more, so pick whatever fits your life right now. Urban Caterpillar Farmer: Just two hours a month restoring plots of soil along the shore of Lake Union, planting natives and bringing along neighbors to understand and care for the littlest ones in the food web. 

Sidewalk Superhero: Spend just two hours a month helping keep our Lake Union walkways clean, welcoming, and vibrant. A little care goes a long way—when paths look great, they tend to stay that way.

Office Whisperer & Advertiser Wrangler: From a few hours once, to a few hours a month—whatever works for you. Help our members with questions and requests, and lend a hand keeping our advertisers happy (think friendly emails, a little coordination, some follow-up). Bonus: you can post up at the gorgeous Keasler Cottage for a change of scenery, or just work from your couch in pajamas—totally your call. Low-drama, high-impact, and a great way to get to know the community from the inside.

Community Buzz Collector:  For a couple of hours a month, hunt down fun goodies from local businesses—mugs, keychains, coupons, toothbrushes, pens, and anything creative you can dream up. We can buy a few items (totes, eco-clean products, books, etc.), but scoring donations is the real win—helping local businesses shine while stocking our stash.

Safety Team Member:  For a couple of hours every other month, join the proactive team dedicated to enhancing the security of our floating community by leading the fire sign project and streamlining emergency communications. Your mission is to identify safety gaps and brainstorm innovative ideas that keep our docks and residents protected from fire and security risks. This role involves periodic committee meetings and occasional project-based tasks focused on long-term community resilience.

Community Storyteller:  For as much time as you have (and don’t have), help capture the unique spirit of life on the water by gathering and writing stories that highlight our neighbors, history, and local events. As a contributor to the blog and digital newsletter, your mission is to ensure that shared community news reaches every dock. This is a flexible, low-pressure commitment perfect for those who enjoy interviewing neighbors and sharing the positive news happening around the lake.

Retro Press Pilot:  For 3 hours quarterly, bring a tactile touch to our communications by managing the technical layout and production of our occasional "retro" print newsletters. You will organize contributed content into a clean, professional format and assist with the logistics of physical distribution. This role is project-based and ideal for someone with an eye for detail who enjoys the process of turning digital news into a high-quality printed keepsake for the neighborhood.  Mac Desktop Publishing experience required

Pocket-Scanner Paparazzo: For as much time as you have (and don’t have),, preserve our neighborhood's unique heritage by digitizing physical records, vintage photos, and maps into a modern community archive. Your mission is to safeguard decades of floating home history, ensuring that the stories and documents of our past are backed up and accessible for future generations. This is a flexible, task-oriented role that allows you to work at your own pace while creating a lasting digital legacy for the lake.  All you need is a smart phone.
